Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--NTE Energy LLC (St. Augustine, Florida) is making strides on several natural gas-fired, combined-cycle (NGCC) projects in North Carolina and Ohio, winning key approvals in North Carolina state and picking up an investor in both. Industrial Info is tracking $3.2 billion in natural gas-fired plant projects across the U.S. involving NTE Energy.
The North Carolina Utilities Commission granted NTE Carolinas II LLC, an affiliate of NTE Energy, its final Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity for the $510 million Reidsville Energy Center in Rockingham County, North Carolina. As currently designed, the combined-cycle power plant will generate 500 megawatts (MW) by utilizing a 330-MW combustion turbine generator set; a supplemental-fired, triple-pressure HRSG; and a 220-MW steam turbine generator set. The certificate is among those required for the project to commence construction. For more details, including contact information and component specifications, see Industrial Info's project report.
NTE said in a press release that it is negotiating long-term power-purchase agreements with "several entities" in the Carolinas to lock in competitive prices for the wholesale market. NTE also is weighing an interconnection with Duke Energy Corporation's (NYSE:DUK) (Charlotte, North Carolina) high-voltage transmission system.
Also in North Carolina, NTE's $450 million combined-cycle energy center in Kings Mountain is under construction, with completion expected in fourth-quarter 2018. The facility will include a 275-MW Mitsubishi combustion turbine generator, a heat-recovery steam generator (HRSG) and a 205-MW Mitsubishi steam turbine, for a total output of 475 MW. Earlier this month, Axium Infrastructure (New York, New York) bought a 25% equity interest in the Kings Mountain facility. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
NTE's largest project under construction is a $645 million combined-cycle energy center in Middletown, Ohio. Similar to the Kings Mountain facility, the plant will include a 327-MW Mitsubishi combustion turbine generator, an HRSG and a 173-MW Mitsubishi steam turbine, for a total output of 500 MW. Axium Infrastructure will own a 19% equity interest, which it also acquired earlier this month; Gemma Power Systems LLC (Glastonbury, Connecticut) is performing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for Kings Mountain and Middletown. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Ohio also is home to NTE's largest proposed project, in terms of investment value: the $900 million Pickaway Energy Center in Circleville. The combined-cycle power plant, originally intended to be built 10 miles west in Williamsport, is currently designed to utilize two 330-MW combustion turbine generators, with a supplemental-fired, triple-pressure HRSG, and a 440-MW steam turbine generator set. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
NTE is seeking permits and approvals for projects in two other U.S. regions: the $500 million Killingly Natural Gas Energy Center in Lakeville, Connecticut, and the $200 million Pecan Creek Energy Center near Sweetwater, Texas. The combined-cycle Killingly facility would generate 550 MW from 330-MW and 220-MW condensing steam turbines; the simple-cycle Pecan Creek facility would generate 237 MW from a Mitsubishi combustion turbine generator. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on the Killingly and Pecan Creek facilities.
