Peru's Iquitos Refinery to Perform Maintenance Work

Researched by Industrial Info Resources Latin America (Cordoba, Argentina)--Petroperu (Lima, Peru) will perform maintenance on the sole crude unit of the company's 10,500-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) refinery near Iquitos, Peru. The work is scheduled to begin in August 2011.

The company has been forced to postpone the planned turnaround work twice this year. The processing plant was originally scheduled to shut down in January 2011. However, because of a delay in the delivery of equipment needed for the turnaround, the work was delayed until May. However, rainfall and severe storms are currently affecting the region, which could cause flooding from the Amazon River. Consequently, authorities have decided to reschedule the repair works for the unit to August.

The Iquitos refinery, which began operations in 1982, is located on the west bank of the Amazon River, 14 kilometers away from the city of Iquitos.
