Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Petrobras' (NYSE:PBR) (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) Revap refinery in Sao Jose dos Campos, Sao Paulo, began a major maintenance shutdown on October 3 in the atmospheric distillation area that is expected to last 46 days.
The maintenance shutdown includes the 251,600-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) atmospheric distillation unit, the 114,700-BBL/d vacuum distillation unit, the 18,800-BBL/d kerosene hydrotreater (HDT) 1, the 22,000-BBL/d kerosene HDT 2, the 37,700-BBL/d diesel HDT, the 283,000-cubic-meter-per-day hydrogen generation unit, the 42,700-BBL/d propane deasphalting unit, and the asphalt and naphtha hydrotreater units. The shutdown is scheduled to last until November 17, 2008. The 88,000-BBL/d fluid catalytic cracking unit (FCCU) and the 96-ton-per-day sulfur recovery unit (SRU) will operate at 45% of their capacities during the maintenance turnaround until October 26, when small maintenance work will be performed on the FCCU to change the turboexpander and to prepare the unit to interconnect with the new units that are being constructed at the refinery. During the FCCU maintenance, the SRU will be shut down.
The maintenance work is being performed at the refinery to prepare the interconnection from the existing units to new ones, as Revap is working on clean-fuel projects aimed at reducing sulfur emissions. Revap's main products are gasoline, diesel oil, liquefied petroleum gas, asphalt and sulfur recovery. The plant is responsible for the distribution of 50% of Brazil's jet fuel.
