Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Recurrent Energy (San Francisco, California), a subsidiary of Sharp Corporation (Osaka, Japan), is on target to construct nearly 53 megawatts (MW) of renewable solar energy in Ontario through photovoltaic technology. The projects are all part of Recurrent Energy's 20-year power purchase agreement with the Ontario Power Authority (OPA), which is under the OPA's feed-in-tariff (FIT) program.

Construction on the solar projects began earlier last month. The projects are expected to be ready for full commercial operation by the end of 2013. The projects are located in various areas of Ontario: two in Smiths Falls, three in Barrie, four in Orillia and one in the Strathroy area. These projects will range from 3.5 to 10 MW. Recurrent Energy has several projects in the Smiths Falls area that recently began full commercial operations and are already contributing 30 MW of renewable energy to the local grid, with an additional 20 MW still on schedule to become operational by the end of 2013.

Celestica (NYSE:CLS) (Toronto, Ontario) will provide about 120,000 solar modules, and Advanced Energy Industries Incorporated (NASDAQ:AEIS) (Fort Collins, Colorado) will supply about 75 Inverters, which will be utilized for the projects. Recurrent Energy also will begin construction on at least three other projects in mid-2013.

PCL Constructors Canada Incorporated (Mississauga, Ontario) has been selected by Recurrent Energy to act as the general contractor for all projects.
