Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Recurrent Energy (San Francisco, California), a subsidiary of Sharp Corporation (Osaka, Japan), is on target to construct nearly 53 megawatts (MW) of renewable solar energy in Ontario using photovoltaic technology. The projects are part of Recurrent Energy's 20-year power purchasing agreement with the Ontario Power Authority (OPA). The agreement is under the OPA's feed-in-tariff (FIT) program.

Construction on the new solar projects began last month. The projects are expected to be ready for full commercial operation by the end of 2013. The projects are located in various areas of Ontario: two in Smiths Falls, three in Barrie, four in Orillia and one in the Strathroy area. The projects will range anywhere from 3.5 to 10 MW in size.

Recurrent Energy has several projects in the Smiths Falls area that recently began full commercial operations and are already contributing a total of 30 MW of renewable energy to the local grid. An additional 20 MW are still on schedule to achieve commercial operation by the end of 2013.

Collectively, more than 120,000 solar modules built by Celestica (NYSE:CLS) (Toronto, Ontario) and more than 75 inverters built by Advanced Energy Industries Incorporated (Fort Collins, Colorado) are being utilized throughout the facilities under construction. Recurrent Energy also will begin construction on at least three other projects by the summer.

PCL Constructors Canada Incorporated (Mississauga, Ontario) has been selected by Recurrent Energy to act as the general contractor for the projects' construction.
