Rio Polimeros has Selected ABB and Snamprogetti to Build Grassroot Petrochemical Complex in Brazil

Rio Polimeros (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil) is finalizing financing contracts with Brazilian Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Economico e Social (BNDES) for construction of a petrochemical complex in Duque de Caxias, Brazil utilizing natural gas as its feedstock. A consortium of ABB-Lummus (Bloomfield, N.J.) and Snamprogetti (Milan, Italy) will function as the turnkey contractor. Construction is set to begin during the first quarter of 2002 with completion slated for 2004. ABB-Lummus will provide technology and construct the 500,000 ton per year ethylene unit.
