San Antonio's CPS Energy Takes Advantage of Solar Power Market Opportunities

If the project is completed, it will be the largest solar project to date in the Lone Star State. The total investment value is estimated to be about $1 billion dollars.

CPS Energy, in partnership with OCI, plan to construct the first phase of a multiphase, 400-MW solar power station. The first phase will consist of 30 MW and will be constructed on a 170-acre site west of San Antonio. This solar park will provide a total of 30 MW of clean, renewable energy, which is enough electricity for about 10,000 households.

Each phase of the solar project will become operational over a period of five years. The first phase is scheduled to begin construction in 2013. These solar power stations will present local economic benefits by creating more than 800 new green-energy jobs in engineering and manufacturing within the area.

The solar project will provide 400 MW of zero-emission energy, as well as zero water use, which is a great benefit, as water in the region is already in short supply.
