Santee Cooper to Utilize WorleyParsons for Third Consecutive Coal Unit

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Santee Cooper (Moncks Corner, South Carolina) employed the engineering expertise of WorleyParsons (Reading, Pennsylvania) for the development of the recently completed Cross Unit 03 and Cross Unit 04 (40% complete) near Pineville, in Berkeley County, South Carolina. Now, Santee Cooper is planning to utilize WorleyParsons again for the first 600-megawatt (MW) unit at the grassroot Pee Dee Power Station construction project near Johnsonville, in Florence County, South Carolina. Along with WorleyParsons, Santee Cooper plans to procure an Alstom pulverized coal supercritical boiler with BACT (best available control technologies) for emissions control and a General Electric steam turbine/generator.

Installation of the foundations at the Pee Dee project is scheduled to commence fall 2007 and completion is scheduled for late 2013, for power sales by January 2014. A second 600 MW unit at Pee Dee Generating Station is planned to follow by two to three years, but as of yet no contractor has been selected.
