Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Upon two years of construction, the Second Guizhou - Guangdong DC Transmission Line for the West to East Power Transmission Project was put into trial operation in Southwest Chinas Guizhou province on June 21, 2007.
This DC transmission line is started from Xingren of Guizhou province and is ended at Shenzhen of Guangdong province. The maximum transmission capacity in single polarity has reached 1,500 megawatts (MW) and the maximum transmission capacity of double polarity has reached 3,000 MW through nearly one month of sub-system, combined and end to end testing.
The Second Guizhou-Guangdong DC Transmission Line is not only an important project in the national eleventh five-year plan (2006-2010), but also a demonstration project for the localized production of ultra high DC transmission equipment the first time in China. Upon the completion of the project, this DC transmission line will be mainly responsible for the transmission of power produced from Xingyi Power Plant, Guangzhao Power Plant, Pannan Power Plant and other power plants in Guizhou province, and is connected to Tianshengqiao II Hydropower Plant, Anshun 500 KV Substation and other 500 KV system in the Guizhou Grid.
Guizhou is an important province with power sources for the Southern Route of the national West to East Power Transmission Project. Since the implementing of the West to East Power Transmission Project, the power installation capacity in Guizhou province has been increased from 5,000 MW to 19,000 MW. By June 20, 2007, the total accumulated electricity transmitted by the West to East Power Transmission Project in Guizhou province reached 10.967 billion kWh.
According to the agreement signed between the governments of Guizhou province and Guangdong province, the maximum power load transmitted from Guizhou province to Guangdong province during the eleventh five-year plan will be increased from 4,000 MW in the tenth five-year plan to 8000 MW, and the expected electricity transmitted will be six times of the number during the tenth five-year plan.
Before the operation of this DC transmission line, the existing transmission paths between Guizhou and Guangdong include two AC and one DC 500 KV lines started from Qingyan Town and Anshun City of Guizhou respectively. Their transmission capacity is 4,500 MW.
