SEPCC3 Begins Powerhouse Excavation for Jiaocheng Coal Gangue Power Station

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Shanxi Electric Power Construction No.3 Engineering Company (SEPCC3) (Taiyuan, Shanxi), a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing), kicked off the excavation for the main powerhouse for Phase I of Shanxi Guojin Coal & Electricity Company Limited's (Lvliang, Shanxi) Jiaocheng coal gangue power station on March 28.

The power station, located at the west of Wangmingzhai Village in Jiaocheng County in central China's Shanxi province, is jointly invested by Shanxi International Electricity Group Company Limited (Taiyuan, Shanxi) (51%) and Shanxi Meijin Energy Group Company Limited (Taiyuan, Shanxi) (49%). The power plant has a total planned capacity of 1,200 megawatts (MW) and will be built in phases. According to the planning, two 300-MW subcritical air-cooling steam turbine generating units, together with a coal gangue-fired circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boilers will be built in Phase I with a total investment of about $450 million.

Pre-stage preparation of the project began in 2007. In January 2009, the environmental impact assessment report of the project was prepared and passed the examination of an expert panel organized by the National Environmental Impact Assessment Center. Later that month, the project owner, Shanxi Guojin Coal & Electricity, officially awarded the survey and engineering contract of the project to Shanxi Electric Power Design Institute (Taiyuan, Shanxi).

According to the schedule, the project will begin operating in late 2013. The project will not only improve the local environmental quality, but also will improve the local grid layout and alleviate the power transmission problems in the grid.
