Several New Mineral-Derived Building Material Manufacturing Plants Come Online During the First Quarter of 2005

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Spurred on by steady increase in demand for building materials nation-wide, several producers of building material related projects such as glass, wallboard, and tile have initiated expansions of existing facilities or construction of grassroot plants in strategic market areas. Industrialinfo.com covers mineral-derived building material manufacturing, such as for gypsum wallboard, lime, concrete products, glass, brick, and ceramic tile as part of its Metals & Minerals Industry.

Several new grassroot Metals & Minerals Industry plants have come online recently supporting this growth trend. Newly formed, StonePeak Ceramics Incorporated, a subsidiary of Italian ceramic manufacturer, GranitiFiandre SPA has completed construction of a 600,000 square foot ceramic tile manufacturing plant in Crossville, Tennessee. For details see January 14, 2004 news article - GranitiFiandre SPA Progresses with Construction of First North American Tile Manufacturing Plant in Tennessee. The plant should be at full capacity in March 2005. This is GranitiFiandre's first U.S. manufacturing location.

Cardinal IG, a subsidiary of Cardinal Glass Industries Incorporated (Eden Prairie, Minnesota), has begun manufacturing operations at its insulated glass manufacturing plant in Vinton, Virginia. Industrialinfo.com began tracking this $23.9 million project in October of 2003. For more information of Cardinal expansion in the U.S. see related November 2003 news article - Cardinal Glass Developing Close to $250 Million in New Insulated and Float Glass Plant Construction Projects in the U.S. The Vinton plant will produce residential window products. In a related project, one of the manufacturers that Cardinal Glass supplies product to, Marvin Windows and Doors is scheduled to open a new plant in Roanoke, Virginia, spending $32 million in two phases at the site.

On the west coast, Eagle Roofing Products, a subsidiary of Burlingame Industries (Rialto, California) has begun operations at its new 250,000 square foot concrete roofing tile manufacturing plant in Stockton, California. The company, which is experiencing explosive demand for its concrete roofing tile products also recently completed a $30 million expansion of its plant in Phoenix, Arizona.
