Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Sinohydro Bureau 14 Company Limited (Kunming, Yunnan), a subsidiary of Sinohydro Corporation (Beijing), recently completed the concrete placement for the spiral case of Unit 1 in Peak and Frequency Regulation Power Generation Company of China Southern Power Grid's (Guangzhou, Guangdong) Qingyuan Pump-Storage Power Station. Sinohydro Corporation announced on September 5, 2013 that the completion has created a foundation for the timely commissioning of the first unit in the power plant.

The spiral case placement kicked off on May 12, 2013 and the completed placement includes 1,802 cubic meters of concrete. Presently, placement for the three remaining units is progressing as scheduled.

The Qingyuan Pump-Storage Power Station, located at Taiping Town, Qingxin County of Qingyuan city, in southern China's Guangdong province, is the first pump-storage power station fully owned by China Southern Grid Corporation (SGC) (Guangzhou). The project has a total planned capacity of 1,280 megawatts (MW), comprising four units of 320 MW each. The total investment in the project will be about $820 million.

The power station comprises the upper and lower reservoirs, the water passage system, the powerhouse and the permanent access road. The upper reservoir has a capacity of 10.55 million cubic meters, with a normal pool level at 612.5 meters above sea level; the lower reservoir has a capacity of 10.58 million cubic meters, with normal pool level at 137.7 meters above sea level; and the water passage system has a total length of 2,449 meters.

Construction of the project kicked off in December 2009; however, the first unit will begin operations in the first quarter of 2015, and the entire project will begin operations by the end of 2015.
