Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Sinohydro Bureau 14 (Chengdu, Sichuan), a regional subsidiary of Power Construction Corporation of China (Power China) (Beijing), officially received notice that it won the main construction for the Qiongzhong Pump-Storage Power Station in Hainan, according to Power China.
China Southern Power Grid Company Limited (Guangzhou, Guangdong) confirmed the bid for the Qiongzhong Pump-Storage Power Station, which is located in Qiongzhong County of South China's Hainan Province, about 106 kilometers from Haikou City and 110 kilometers from Sanya City. The project will be furnished with three 200-megawatt (MW) pump-storage units. Total installed capacity of the project will be 600MW. The project is funded by CSG Peak and Frequency Regulation Power Generation Company Limited (Guangzhou, Guangdong), a subsidiary of China Southern Power Grid. HydroChina Zhongnan Engineering Corporation (Changsha, Hunan) is responsible for the design and engineering of the project. Dongfang Electric Corporation (Chengdu, Sichuan) was awarded the contract to provide the main equipment.
As reported, the project is mainly comprised of the upper reservoir, the water transmission system, the powerhouse and the lower reservoir. The bid that was awarded to Sinohydro Bureau 14 includes the power intake system as well as the underground powerhouse works, including the main intake tunnel, the intake branch tubes, the intake branch tunnels, the powerhouse system, the draining gallery, part of construction tunnels and related auxiliary facilities.
According to the schedule, the project will kick off in April and be completed in December 2017. Construction of the project is valued at about $42.5 million. Total construction period of the project will be 45 months. Upon completion, the facility will be mainly responsible for peak and frequency regulation as well as emergency backups and blackout startups in Hainan Grid, a provincial branch of China Southern Power Grid.
