SinoHydro Signs Agreements to Build Energy Projects in Fiji and Ghana

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The signing ceremony for the Nadarivatu Renewable Energy Project between SinoHydro Corporation (Beijing) and Fiji Electricity Authority was held in Fiji on September 8, 2008. According to the agreement, the project will begin construction this month and is scheduled to be completed in 2011. SinoHydro won the project through an international competitive bidding process.

The Nadarivatu Renewable Energy Project is located in the northwest of the island of Viti Levu, Fuji. The project is a hydropower station furnished with two 22-megawatt (MW) Peton turbine generating units, and the entire project is comprised of a 40-meter-high concrete dam, a three-gate spillway, a 1.9-kilometer water transmission tunnel, a 1.4-kilometer penstock, an associated 132-kilovolt substation and a 5-kilometer transmission line.

The project is an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) project based on unit price with terms for price escalation. Total cost of the project is $124.8 million, and the project has an estimated construction period of 1,072 days. Tianjin Investigation, Design & Research Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower, a subsidiary of SinoHydro, will be responsible for the engineering of the project. SinoHydro Bureau 10 and SinoHydro Bureau 6, two divisions of SinoHydro, will participate in the implementation of the project.

On September 2, SinoHydro signed a framework agreement for hydroelectric projects in Ghana. According to the agreement, SinoHydro will act as the general contractor for four small hydroelectric projects proposed in western Ghana. SinoHydro is currently responsible for the construction of the 400-MW Bui Dam Project, which is scheduled to be completed in 2012.
