Skanska's 10 Top-Valued Projects Fueled by Natural-Gas Power, Commuter Rail Expansions
Skanska AB has seen a slew of project awards in North America recently, with much of it attributed to natural gas-fired power facilities and commuter-rail extensions.
The three highest-valued projects are commuter rail lines in California: the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority's $2.82 billion Purple Line expansion (Phase I) and $1.07 billion downtown Los Angeles extension, and Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority's $2.3 billion Silicon Valley Rapid Transit Corridor extension (Phase I). Skanska USA is performing design-build services for all three. The Purple Line will include three new stations in the Wilshire area; the downtown expansion will include three new stations near Long Beach and Santa Monica; and the 10-mile Silicon Valley extension will run from Fremont to northern San Jose.

The highest-valued Power Industry project is a natural gas-fired, combined-cycle (NGCC) power stations from Competitive Power Ventures Incorporated (Silver Spring, Maryland).
Skanska's British subsidiary is serving as general contractor on the largest Pharmaceutical & Biotech Industry project to involve the multinational company: AstraZeneca plc's (NYSE:AZN) (London, England) $500 million addition to its biomedical campus in Cambridge, England. AstraZeneca plans to add a research and development facility for small-molecule and biological products, as well as protein engineering.
