Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company (Houston, Texas) is planning to begin construction on its South Texas Expansion Project in April of 2003. Construction contractors will be selected in the first quarter of 2003. When completed in June of 2004, the $39.8 million project will facilitate the export of 320 million cubic feet per day of natural gas to power generation markets in Northern Mexico. The project will incorporate a new compressor station based two 4,700 horsepower Caterpillar 3616 IC engines and 9.3 miles of 30" diameter pipeline with 7 miles of 24" diameter pipeline looping on the Donna Line.
Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company is a subsidiary of the El Paso Corporation (NYSE:EP) (Houston, Texas) and owns & operates a 14,700-mile pipeline system stretching from Mexico to Canada powered by over 1.4 million horsepower of compression. Other subsidiaries of the EL Paso Corporation include ANR Pipeline Company, El Paso Natural Gas, Colorado Interstate Gas Company, and Southern Natural Gas Company totaling a further 33,850 miles of natural gas pipelines.
