Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Privately held, national public refrigerated warehouse operator, United States Cold Storage Incorporated (Cherry Hill, New Jersey), plans to build a new cold storage warehouse at a former Bethlehem Steel manufacturing site in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania (Plant 1063200).
Last week, the company announced the purchase of 32.5 acres from local redevelopment firm Lehigh Valley Industrial Park Incorporated (Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania) and their intentions to construct an initial 120,000 square foot cold storage and distribution center with the potential to grow to 600,000 square feet as market shares in the region increase. The Bethlehem facility will be the company's first site north of the Pennsylvania state line.
The company selected United Insulated Structures Corporation (Berkeley, Illinois) as the prime contractor for this $14 million project and currently fill dirt is being trucked in and grading is underway at the site located near Route 412 and Daly Avenue in Bethlehem.
The structure will be outfitted with the latest refrigerated logistics services, such as a computer system for total management information systems, barcode scanning, Internet tracking, and automated storage and retrieval systems.
The warehouse will also include refrigerated docks, rail service, offices, blast freezing, slip-sheeting, stretch wrapping, and case stamping services.
Construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2004 and an estimated 40 employees will be hired initially to run the center.
United States Cold Storage is dedicated to being the leader in providing highly reliable and cost-effective logistic solutions to the frozen and refrigerated food industry. They operate twenty-one facilities throughout the U.S. in California, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Nebraska, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.
