Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The examination meeting for the Water Resources Evaluation Report for the Anhui Jinzhai Pump-Storage Power Station was organized by the Huaihe Water Resources Commission, which is part of the Ministry of Water Resources, in Jinzhai County, in the Anhui province, from April 20-21, 2013. During the meeting, the Water Resources Evaluation Report prepared by HydroChina Huadong Engineering Corporation (Hangzhou, Zhejiang) passed the examination of an expert panel, according to an announcement from HydroChina Huadong on April 24, 2013.

The Anhui Jinzhai Pump-Storage Power Station is located at Zhangchong Xiang, Jinzhai County, in Anhui. The power station plans to have four vertical Francis reversible pump-storage hydraulic turbine generating units, each of 300 megawatts (MW), for total installation capacity of 1,200 MW, with a total investment of about $1 billion.

The project is to be built and operated by State Grid Xin Yuan Holding Company Limited (Beijing), a subsidiary of the State Grid Corporation of China (Beijing). In April 2012, the project received preliminary approval from the National Energy Administration (NEA) and was given consent to kick off pre-stage preparation. In August 2012, the Preparation Office for Jinzhai Pump-Storage Power Station Company Limited was established in Jinzhai County.

The approval of the Water Resources Evaluation Report allowed for final approval of the project. According to the schedule, construction of the project will kick off later this year, and the total construction period for the project will be about five years. Upon completion, the project will be able to generate about 2 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in peak hours every year by consuming about 2.68 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in the valley hour; this will not only enhance the peak and frequency regulation capability in Anhui Grid, but it also will greatly promote local economic and social development.
