Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--A groundbreaking ceremony for two large-scale wind power projects, including the 2-gigawatt (GW) Dongnan Windfarm, was held in the Hami prefecture on April 26, 2011. The Dongnan Windfarm is the largest wind power project built in the Xinjiang autonomous region, and it marks the entry of Hami's wind power into the large-scale development stage.
The Dongnan Windfarm, which is in the Kushui and Yandun districts in the southeast of Hami City, is to be jointly invested by 10 major wind power enterprises in China, including Datang Xinjiang Energy Development Company Limited (Urumqi, Xinjiang), Huadian Xinjiang Power Generation Company Limited (Urumqi, Xinjiang), Longyuan Hami New Energy Company Limited (Hami, Xinjiang), Beijing Tianrun New Energy Investment Company (Beijing), China Guangdong Nuclear Hami Wind Power Company Limited (Hami, Xinjiang), Huadian Xinjiang Energy Development Company Limited (Urumqi, Xinjiang), China Energy Conservation Wind Power Company Limited (Beijing) and Xinjiang Huarong Oriental New Energy Company Limited (Urumqi, Xinjiang), with a total investment of $2.44 billion. These 10 enterprises won the concession rights from the National Energy Administration (NEA) through public bidding in August 2010. According to the approval of the NEA, each enterprise will build a 200-megawatt (MW) wind power project in the windfarm.
On the same day, the 49.5-MW construction of the Phase I Project of Huadian Xinjiang's Shisanjianfang Windfarm kicked off in Hami. Upon completion, the project will be able to supply more than 100 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy to the grid every year.
Hami is a region rich in wind power resources. In 2009, Hami received approval from the NEA to be the seventh 10-GW wind power base planned in China. According to plans, the capacity of wind power in Hami will reach 10.8 GW by the end of 2015.
