Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Solvay Indupa, the Argentine subsidiary of Belgian chemical group Solvay (Brussels, Belgium), and Argentine energy trader Albanesi S.A. will inaugurate a 120-megawatt (MW) thermo plant in Bahía Blanca, Buenos Aires province, next August 19. Both companies formed a joint venture called Solalvan Energia (Bahia Blanca, Argentina).
The $150 million plant will produce energy for self-consumption. The remaining capacity will be supplied to the SIN, Argentina's National Interconnected System, under the National Energy Plus Regime, which was developed to encourage local investors to create projects to boost capacity with unregulated tariffs. The venture was developed to guarantee that Solvay Indupa's PVC and caustic soda plants work at full capacity. The 165-MW facility will be built in two phases. The simple-cycle unit will produce 120 MW initially. The date and scope of the combined-cycle expansion hasn't been specified. The plant will be equipped with a FR8R Swift-pack manufactured by Pratt & Whitney (East Hartford, Connecticut), a division of United Technologies Corporation (NYSE:UTX) (Hartford, Connecticut).
Albanesi is one of the major Argentine energy traders, which owns the Modesto Maranzana Generating Power Plant (Cordoba, Argentina). The plant is equipped with two combined-cycle modules equipped with four General Electric turbines that produce a total output of 70 MW.
