Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The environmental impact assessment (EIA) report for the Sichuan Hongda Molybdenum Copper Company Limited's (Deyang, Sichuan) Deyang molybdenum-copper smelter received approval from the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP), according to a February 28 announcement.
The proposed Deyang smelter is located in the Shifang Economic Development Zone of Deyang City in southwestern China's Sichuan province. According to the approval, the project will be a comprehensive utilization project of multiple metals. Construction of the project includes a 40,000-metric-ton-per-year molybdenum smelting plant, a 400,000-metric-ton-per-year cathode copper smelting plant, and a captive power plant.
The molybdenum and copper smelters will be built in two phases. Phase I of the molybdenum smelting plant will produce 25,000 tons per year of ferromolybdenum and 7,516 tons per year of molybdenum trioxide in high purity. Phase II of the molybdenum smelting plant will produce 30,000 tons per year of molybdenum trioxide in high purity. Phase I of the copper smelting plant will produce 200,000 tons per year of cathode copper, and the production capacity will be expanded to 400,000 T/yr upon the completion of Phase II. Total investment in the project will be approximately $1.067 billion, including $153 million for environmental protection.
As a subsidiary of Sichuan Hongda Company Limited (Deyang, Shichuan) (SHA:600331), Sichuan Hongda Molybdenum Copper Company was established specifically for this project in November 2010. Presently, the project owner is working with China Nerin Engineering Company (Nanchang, Jiangsi), the project designer, for detailed engineering of the project. According to the schedule, construction of the project will be officially kicked off later this year.
