Chile's Colbun Plans Maintenance on Units 1 and 2 at Hydroelectric Plant

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Colbun S.A. (Santiago, Chile), which owns and operates the 475-megawatt (MW) Colbun hydroelectric plant, last week completed annual maintenance on units 1 and 2. The company is scheduled to perform the next maintenance outage by March 2015.

The next outage will involve bearings replacements; a change of the distributor servomotor; lubrication; and inspection. It is scheduled to last 15 days.

The Colbun plant is located in a large hydroelectric complex, along with the 95-MW Machicura, the 37-MW San Ignacio and the 20-MW Chiburgo hydro plants.

Among the other hydroelectric facilities that Colbun operates in Chile are the 316-MW Angostura, 166-MW Rucue and the 172-MW Canutillar plants. The company also operates thermal power plants, such as the 823-MW Central Termica Nehueco, the 342-MW Centro Termoelectrico Santa Maria and the 250-MW Central Termica Candelaria.

The hydro plant began operating in 1985. Today, it is equipped with a 239-MW and a 236-MW Voith Francis hydro turbine generator set (Heidenheim, Germany).
