Alto Dairy Cooperative Prepares to Commission New Steam Plant This Month

Member owned dairy cooperative Alto Dairy Cooperative (Waupun, Wi) has partnered up with Alliant Energy Intergrated Services (Cedar Rapids, Ia), a subsidiary of Alliant Energy Corporation (Madison, Wi) (NYSE:LNT), to construct a new $3.6 million steam plant at Alto's Waupun Dairy complex.

Alliant funded the project and will own and operate the plant. Construction began back in the fall of 2001 and the unit is projected to start-up around March 28, 2002.

The steam plant is configured with four 800hp gas-fired boilers and will have the designed capacity to deliver 68,000 pounds per hour of process steam for the dairy. It will also replace Alto's existing steam plant and save the dairy around $300,000 per year in energy costs.

Alto is a member-owned cooperative of dairy producers with a century of experience in manufacturing and marketing dairy products. Alto's 1,200 dairy producers supply its three manufacturing facilities with over 5.3 million pounds of milk per day.
