Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Tianjin Lejin Bohai Chemicals Corporation recently completed a 350,000-ton vinyl chloride monomer project in northern Chinas Tianjin Municipality. The project, in the Tianjin Lingang Industrial Area, is among the first few important projects. It is estimated to gain about $287.6 million of revenue annually.
Lejin Bohai is a joint venture funded by LG Chemicals (South Korea) and Tianjin Bohai Chemicals Group with a total investment of $30 million, among which contractual capital reaches $10 million. Besides chloroethylene, the company also produces chemical products such as caustic soda.
Tianjin Lingang Industrial Area is in the center of the Tianjin Binhai New Area, Tanggu District of Tianjin, at the border of Beijing, Tianjin and the city belt around Bohai Sea.
Tianjin Bohai is a large producer in Chinas chemical industry with its own scientific, research and design centers, and trade, finance and education institutes. It produces caustic soda, sodium carbonate, PVC, paint, pesticides, tires, carbon black and dyes.
Its initial public offering debut in the Hong Kong stock exchange was as early as in 1994, among the first nine companies selling shares outside the Chinese mainland. It sold shares in Shanghai the next year and was approved to be a sino-joint venture in 1995.
LG Chem (China) Investment Company Limited was founded in 2005, integrating all companies it owns in China. By the end of 2005, it had invested about $1 billion, employing more than 3,500 people. Its PVC and ABS sales are No. 1 the in the market in China.
LG Chemicals is among the first groups of foreign corporations to invest in Tianjin, a municipality strong in the chemical industry. Its products cover the areas of information technology and electronic materials, such as batteries, optical materials, imaging materials, petrochemical materials, including PVC, ABS and resin, as well as industrial materials.
