Aggies Set to Begin Construction of $53 Million Science Research Building in Galveston

Texas A&M University (Galveston, Texas) is set to start construction this summer for its new $53 million Science Research Building on Pelican Island in Galveston. As reported in Industrial Info's Pharmaceutical Tracker - Online Database, the 100,000 square-foot building will house marine biology and engineering education and research.

Designed by Watkins, Hamilton & Ross (Houston, Texas), the building will have an entire wing devoted to advanced research and another for instruction and undergrad teaching laboratories. As is the case in the majority of new university laboratories being built today, the science building will be set up to conduct cross-disciplinary research. The design concept was focused on adaptation and sustainability. Each laboratory space was designed to allow for changes in technological needs, future growth and a variety of research activities.

Houston J. T. Vaughan construction was awarded the construction management at risk contract for the project. Construction is expected to be complete in 2010.
