Algeria's Sonatrach to Invest $10 Billion for Chemical Projects

Through its subsidiaries, joint ventures and other memorandum of understanding (MOU) agreements, Sonatrach has brought on board many international companies like Petrofac (UAE) and Tecnimont (Milan, Italy).

Through various domestic and international collaborations, Sonatrach is working on the ACFC Integrated Phosphate Project in Skikda (Hadjar Soud) and Soul Ahras (Oued Kébérit). Other chemical projects in the pipeline are the grassroot propane dehydrogenation (PDH)-polypropylene (PP) plant in Arzew, and the methyl tert butyl ether (MTBE) unit addition project also in Arzew. Sonatrach recently awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to Tecnimont to construct its linear alkyl benzene (LAB) plant in Skikda.

Most projects are likely to be commissioned by 2027-28.
