Algonquin Buys Four U.S. Windfarms

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Algonquin Power and Utilities Corporation (Oakville, Ontario) has signed a deal to buy four U.S. windfarms from wind energy company Gamesa Corporación Tecnológica (Zamudio, Spain). The windfarms have a combined nameplate generating capacity of 480 megawatts (MW) and will cost Algonquin $888 million.

Gamesa has commissioned two of the four windfarms: The 80-megawatt (MW) Pocahontas Prairie Windfarm and the 50-MW Sandy Ridge Windfarm both began commercial operations earlier this year. Both facilities are supplied with Gamesa's G9X-2.0MW wind turbine-generators.

The two other windfarms are in the development stage. These include the Senate Windfarm in Texas and the Minonk Windfarm in Iowa, both of which are expected to begin operations by the end of this year. These facilities will also be supplied with the Gamesa G9X-2.0MW wind turbine-generators. Upon completion of all facilities, Gamesa will have provided 240 turbine sets. Gamesa will managing the facilities and provide operations and maintenance services for the next 20 years.
