Amy's Kitchen Prepares for Northward Operations Relocation - Contractor Identified

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated Houston, Texas). One of the nation's leading natural frozen food brands, privately held Amy's Kitchen Incorporated (Santa Rosa, California), is putting the final touches on a plan to relocate the company's headquarters and operations to White City, Oregon.

After a battle of incentives between California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski to relocate the plant to Oregon or stay in California, the company made the decision to move to Oregon in November of 2004. The move to Oregon is forecasted to save the company almost $4 million in workers' compensation claims, utility charges, and taxes.

Plans are to construct a new $8 million, 137,000 square foot manufacturing plant in White City, Oregon, where the company plans to relocate operations and expand its capacity for making organic and vegetarian food items.

The company selected S & B James Construction (White City, Oregon) as the general contractor for the job, and Pennsylvania-based Spear & Associates has been working on the plant's engineering and design drawings.

Plans are to start construction around the first or second week of August of 2005. Construction is expected to take about twelve months to complete. The new site will have a total of 165,000 square feet of space under roof, with a manufacturing floor, shipping dock, and storage areas for the production of organic convenience foods from full meals to specialty diet products.

Founded in1987, Amy's Kitchen makes frozen and pre-packaged vegetarian meals, and the company distributes its delicacies through grocery stores around the nation. The company has created over eighty frozen meals, including pizzas, pocket sandwiches, pot pies, entrées, snacks, and whole meals. In 1999, they introduced a grocery line that now includes canned soups, beans, and chili, as well as jarred pasta sauces and salsas. Products are carried by all-natural foods stores, supermarkets, and some club stores in the United States, Canada and abroad.
