Barclay-Skanska Begins Construction on New Advancis Pharmaceutical Facility in Maryland

Advancis Pharmaceutical Corporation (Gaithersburg, Maryland) has awarded Barclay White Skanska Incorporated (Blue Bell, Pennsylvania) the construction management contract for the build-out of their new building in Germantown, Maryland. Advancis, which focuses on the development and commercialization of anti-infective therapeutics, is spending more than $15 million on property and equipment for the project, which is located in the Seneca Meadows Corporate Center in Germantown, Maryland. The Maryland Industrial Financing Authority (MIDFA) and a grant from the Montgomery County Department of Economic Development helped with funding for the venture.

Gaudreau Incorporated (Baltimore, Maryland) handled the design of the 62,000 square foot facility, which consists of research laboratories, cGMP pilot-production facilities, and corporate offices. Construction began earlier this fall and Advancis hopes to begin a phased-in occupancy beginning in June of 2003, with final completion of the project scheduled for early 2004.
