Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--While the U.S. has experienced some slowdown in the construction sector due to the COVID-19 pandemic, activity is picking up again, and general contractors are back at work. Among these is The Boldt Company (Appleton, Wisconsin). Industrial Info is tracking more than $1.7 billion in U.S. projects involving Boldt, spanning a range of industries, including Power, Pulp & Paper, and Pharmaceutical & Biotech.

Some of Boldt's largest projects are in the renewable energy sector. Among these is EDP Renewables North America LLC's (Houston, Texas) Harvest Ridge Windfarm in Douglas County, Illinois. The 202-megawatt (MW) facility will feature a mix of Vestas 3.45-MW and 4.2-MW wind turbines. Construction began last summer, and the project is nearing completion. Boldt is the general contractor. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Planned to get underway soon is the 80-MW Lone Tree Windfarm in Tiskilwa, Illinois, in the north of the state. The windfarm will feature 32 2.5-MW turbines. The project is slated for completion toward the end of this year. Boldt is the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor on the project, which has an estimated total investment value of $132 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Further away from its home state, Boldt is providing design-build services on a medical research building addition for the University of California at the San Francisco General Hospital. The project entails a five-story, 175,000-square-foot building to house medical research programs, approximately 200 scientists and 800 employees. The project is planned to kick off in mid-2022 and be completed in the first half of 2024. The facility will consolidate operations from seven older buildings. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Boldt also is underway with several projects in the Pulp & Paper Industry. Late last year in Biron, Wisconsin, Boldt began general contracting work on a paper machine conversion project at ND Paper LLC's (Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin) mill. The $100 million project entails a major conversion of the machine to cease production of 170,000 metric tons per year of white finished paper and produce containerboard. The project is expected to be completed later this year. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
