Bridgeport Ethanol Expects First Corn Grind at Nebraska Plant in First Week of October

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Investor-owned ethanol start-up Bridgeport Ethanol LLC (Bridgeport, Nebraska), an affiliate of Sterling Ethanol LLC (Sterling, Colorado), is expecting to start grinding corn, the first stage of ethanol production, at a new plant near Bridgeport in the first week of October 2008. Company officials indicated that the running target dates for grinding are between October 1 and October 16, just in time for the new corn harvest.

Construction started on the estimated $80 million project in September 2007, and completion of the project is ahead of schedule. The plant is being built by ICM Incorporated (Colwich, Kansas), and the commissioning and start-up procedures are expected to begin in September.

The plant has a nameplate capacity of 50 million gallons per year and will require 19 million bushels of corn annually to feed the plant. Once fully operational, the plant will run 24 hours a day every day of the week and require 32 employees to operate the plant. Corn origin and distillers grains marketing will be handled by Colorado Ag Services, also an investor in the project.

The plant is located on a 40-acre site east of Bridgeport at 9216 County Road 90 in Morrill County.

The Bridgeport plant is the third plant Sterling Ethanol has been involved in. Sterling Ethanol built its first plant, a 42 million-gallon-per-year plant, in Sterling that went into operation in back in November of 2005. The second plant, Yuma Ethanol LLC (Yuma, Colorado), a 50 million-gallon-per-year facility, started operation in September 2007. With all plants running at full capacity, the company will have 142 million gallons per year of ethanol production online.
