Brighton Beach Power Site Ready for Arrival of Major Mechanical Generating Components

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Brighton Beach, L.P., a partnership formed by privately owned ATCO Power Limited.(Calgary, Alberta) and Ontario Power Generation (OPG), has completed site excavation and underground piping for a power plant in Windsor. The facility, a 580MW combined-cycle plant fueled by natural gas, is located on the site of the former J.C. Keith Generating Station.

Next month, shipment of the generating components will arrive at the site, beginning with the heat recovery steam generator, followed by two combustion turbines and a single steam turbine generator. Brighton Beach is one of only a few projects, among many proposed plants, that have actually made it to the construction phase. The plant is scheduled to enter commercial operation in March of 2004.

ATCO Power Limited, the lead developer of the project, will manage construction services, and has contracted Stantec Consulting (Edmonton, Alberta) as the engineering firm of record. ATCO will award major mechanical and electrical packages by the end of this month.

ATCO Power is a world leader in the development of environmentally progressive generation facilities. It has built, owns and operates power plants in Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia. ATCO Power operates 12 natural gas turbine plants worldwide and three coal-fired generating stations in Alberta with a total capacity of over 3600 megawatts.

Ontario Power Generation is a major electricity generating company, based in Ontario. As a commercial business, its core function is the generation and sale of electricity to customers in Ontario and to interconnected markets. Its focus is on producing reliable electricity from competitive generation assets, power trading and commercial energy sales activities.
