Caterpillar Under Way on $50 Million Plant Expansion in North Dakota

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Heavy machinery manufacturer Caterpillar Incorporated (NYSE:CAT) (Peoria, Illinois) is expanding its remanufacturing facility in West Fargo, North Dakota.

When complete, the expanded plant will support the growing demand for drive train components for large off-highway trucks and mining equipment. Groundbreaking for the $50 million, 225,000-square-foot building expansion started in August 2011 and was followed by foundations and site work.

Actual building construction started in September, and overall completion is planned for the early summer of 2012. The new expansion will house high-tech machining and metal additive processes for increased production capacity and also increase the production of new and remanufactured piece parts and advanced wear coatings. The expansion will also increase the company's capacity for customer support to the mining industry. Approximately 250 new jobs will be created once the expansion is complete, increasing the total employment at the plant to 550.

The West Fargo facility has been producing remanufactured components for over 40 years.

Moore Engineering Incorporated (West Fargo) was selected to provide engineering services, and Olaf Anderson Construction Company (Fargo, North Dakota) is providing general construction services for the expansion.
