Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Chevron Phillips Chemical Company Limited Partnership (CPChem) (The Woodlands, Texas) has begun engineering for nitrogen oxide (NOx) emission reduction projects for its plant located in Baytown, Texas called the Cedar Bayou plant and its plant located in Old Ocean, Texas known as the Sweeney plant.
Industrialinfo.com is tracking turnarounds for both of these plants and has recently updated the North American Industrial Database to reflect the most recent project schedules for the NOx reduction projects.Halliburton KBR (Houston, Texas), a division of Halliburton Company (NYSE: HAL), is providing engineering and construction services for the Sweeney plant NOx reduction project that will include retrofits of three ethylene units at the site. Construction is planned to begin next year. Halliburton KBR will also provide procurement and construction services for the Cedar Bayou NOx reduction project while ABB Lummus Global Incorporated (NYSE: ABB) (Bloomfield, New Jersey) has provided technology and design. Construction is expected to begin next year for the Cedar Bayou plant as well and include modifications to the convection section for thirteen of fourteen cracking furnaces with the installation of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) equipment for each furnace.
"Over the last year, Industrialinfo.com has identified dozens of projects at petrochemical and refining complexes in Texas that will be forced to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on NOx compliance projects over the next five or more years," commented Trey Hamblet, Chemical Group Manager with Industrialinfo.com. "Many of the chemical and refining plants in Texas have boilers, furnaces, and heaters that have been in service for decades and need major upgrades or even replacements to be in compliance with new regulations that are proposed by TCEQ (Texas Commission on Environmental Quality). The newest mandates could require as much as a 90% reduction in NOx emissions by 2007," Mr. Hamblet added.
