Chilean Paper Company Arauco Inaugurates Business Unit in China

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Arauco (Santiago, Chile), a producer of pulp, paper and forestry products, opened a new commercial office in Shangai, China, in the first part of July.

Arauco has been a pulp provider for China for more than 30 years and has approximately 300 customers in the country. About 40% of the company's sales are carried out in Asia.

Company officials stated that having an office in Shangai would strengthen trade relations with Asian clients and would allow them to meet rising pulp demand. The new Chinese division will primarily focus on technical support and market intelligence, logistic solutions, and the commercial management of pulp. Arauco has other business units around the world, including Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Peru, the United States, Mexico, Australia and Europe.

The opening of the Shangai office was originally scheduled for the first quarter of this year, but was postponed after an earthquake struck Chile on February 27. The earthquake forced the company to concentrate on the recovery of the production mills that were affected.
