Chile's Edelpa Opens Solvents Recovery Plant

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Chilean company Envases del Pacífico (SCL:EDELPA) (Edelpa) (Maipú, Chile) has opened a new solvents-recovery plant at Maipú, Región Metropolitana, Chile.

Edelpa is a leading Chilean company that has provided packaging solutions for Latin America and the United States for 43 years and has developed the neccesary knowledge and technology to be able to adapt to customers' requirements.

Edelpa's processing site is located in Maipú, Metropolitan Area, and has a production capacity of 18,000 metric tons per year. The new recovery plant, installed on an already existing site, is the first of its kind in South America. The facility will allow the company to capture and reuse up to 90% of the solvents that have previously evaporated into the atmosphere as a result of the productive process or the environment.

The construction of the unit required $7 millon of Edelpa's $25 millon modernization plan, which includes the incorporation of modern techology for the achievement of higher efficiency standards. The startup of the unit was coordinated by engineer Tulio Neira. The solvents-recovery plant is completely automated.

Plant authorities have stated that this new unit is a step toward more environmentally friendly operations, as it reduces emissions and, as government authorities have stated, will help improve Santiago's air quality.
