Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--China Nuclear Industry 23 Construction Company Limited (CNI23) (Beijing), a subsidiary of China Nuclear Engineering Group Corporation (CNEC) (Beijing), successfully completed the dome erection for Unit 3 of Yangjiang Nuclear Power Station on June 9, 2012. This marks not only that construction of the unit has been smoothly shifted from civil construction to equipment installation, but also that CNEC has successfully achieved the objective of shortening the construction period of CPR1000-based unit from first concrete date (FCD) to dome erection to 19 months.
The nuclear island dome of Unit 3 has a total lifting weight of 164.5 metric tons. Erection of the dome was completed in 76 minutes. Unlike units 1 and 2 at the Yangjiang Nuclear Power Station, the construction period from FCD to dome erection of Unit 3 was shortened to 19 months. In order to achieve this objective, China Nuclear Industry Huaxing Construction Company Limited (Nanjing, Jiangsu), the civil works contractor and another subsidiary of the CNEC has applied the modularized construction technology for steel liners the first time in the construction of Unit 3.
Yangjiang Nuclear Power Station is a key energy project listed in the nation's 11th Five-Year Plan, with a total planned capacity of six 1,000-megawatt nuclear power units based on China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corporation (CGNPC) (Shenzhen) CPR1000 pressurized water reactor technology. In November 2008, the project received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission to build all six units continuously with a total estimated investment of $10.2 billion.
Yangjiang Nuclear Power Company Limited (YNPC) (Yangjiang, Guangdong), a subsidiary of the CGNPC, with joint investment from CLP Holdings Limited (Hong Kong), is responsible for the construction as well as future operation of the project.
Construction of the nuclear island for Unit 3 of Yangjiang Nuclear Power Station was officially kicked off on November 15, 2010. The unit is adopted with the CPR1000+ technical scheme, a safer, more economic and stable technology based on CGNPC's CPR1000 technology.
