ConAgra’s Iowa Pudding Plant Expansion on Fast-Track Construction Schedule

One of North America’s largest food processors, ConAgra Foods, Incorporated (NYSE:CAG) (Omaha, Nebraska), is on the fast-track to complete construction of an expansion at its ConAgra Grocery Products Company division’s Waterloo, Iowa pudding plant by May of 2007.

ConAgra announced back in September plans to close five plants and cut jobs. The plants that are closing are in Archbold and Rossford, Ohio; Fort Worth, Texas; Folcroft, Pennsylvania, and Laval, Quebec. The plant in Rossford produced pudding and the manufacturing capacity from that plant will now be shifted to Waterloo once construction is complete.

Currently, the foundation and slabs are being poured for aan 180,000 square-foot expansion. Processing and packaging equipment will be relocated and expanded to double the plant’s current capacity. The company selected The Haskell Company (Jacksonville, Florida) as the general contractor for this $46 million project and construction is expected to be complete in just seven months.

The Waterloo plant site was one of three the company had targeted in early April of this year for the expansion. The other plants that were being considered were in Menomonie, Wisconsin and Indianapolis, Indiana.
