Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Work has begun on the last of the six power units that make up the massive Yangjiang Nuclear Power Station project, according to Guangdong Power Engineering Corporation (Guangzhou, Guangdong).
Guangdong Power Engineering, a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing), said it poured the first bucket of concrete on December 23, 2014, for the sixth unit of China General Nuclear Corporation's (CGN) (Shenzhen, Guangdong) power station.
Work now has kicked off on all six of the project's power units.
The fifth and sixth units are being constructed northeast of the other four units, which also are in the construction phase. The fifth and sixth units are being built at an estimated cost of $4 billion, which includes about $200 million for environmental protection.
The key energy project is located at Shahuan in Dongping Town of Yangjiang City, in southern China's Guangdong province. It is listed in China's 12th Five-Year (2011-15) Plan.
In 2008, the National Development and Reform Commission approved the $16 billion project, with construction of the power station to be continuous until all six units are completed.
Yangjiang Nuclear Power Company Limited (YNPC) (Yangjiang, Guangdong), a subsidiary of the CGN, is responsible for the construction as well as future operation of the project.
Construction of the first unit began in December 2008. As reported, the first unit had achieved its first critical state in December 2013, and it is expected to begin commercial operations in the first half of 2014.
The civil works for the second and third units were completed. Those units are undergoing equipment erection and testing.
The fourth unit is still under civil works construction.
The fifth and sixth units underwent an environment impact assessment report (construction stage) and were cleared by the Ministry of Environment Protection in September 2013.
According to the schedule, the entire project will be completed in 2018.
