Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--At a ceremony attended by leaders and representatives from the National Nuclear Safety Administration (NNSA), China General Nuclear Corporation (CGN) (Shenzhen, Guangdong) and China Nuclear Engineering Corporation (CNEC) (Beijing), the first bucket of concrete for the nuclear island of Unit 5 at Yangjiang Nuclear Power Station was poured at the construction site of Yangjiang Nuclear Power Station on September 18, 2013, according to an announcement by China Nuclear Industry Huaxing Construction Company Limited (CNEC Huaxing) (Nanjing, Jiangsu), a subsidiary of the CNEC and the construction contractor of the project, on September 19. Construction of main works for the unit has kicked off.
As reported, the pit excavation of Unit 5 had received approval from the NNSA on February 27, 2013. On February 28, the pit was transferred to the Yangjiang Project Office of CNEC Huaxing for the preparation of the first concrete date. By June 25, the nuclear island of Unit 5 was ready for the first concrete. Following an order from China Nuclear Power Engineering Company Limited (Shenzhen, Guangdong), the general contractor and a subsidiary of CGN, on September 13, CNEC Huaxing quickly completed all preparation works prior to the FCD in just four days. According to plans, the foundation of Unit 5 has a total concrete volume of 4,452 cubic meters. It's expected that the concrete placement for the foundation will be completed in 45 hours, with the adoption of proven mass concrete overall placement technology perceived by CNEC.
The Yangjiang Nuclear Power Station, located at Shahuan in Dongping Town of Yangjiang City, in southern China's Guangdong province, has a total planned capacity of six 1,000-megawatt nuclear power units based on CGNPC's CPR1000 pressurized water reactor technology. In November 2008, the project received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission to build all six units continuously in one time with a total estimated investment of $10.2 billion.
