Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Shandong Electric Power Construction No.2 Company (SEPCO2) (Jinan, Shandong) received the notice of bid award issued by China Nuclear Power Engineering Company Limited (Shenzhen) for the construction and erection of the conventional island and balance of plant (BOP) of Unit 5 in China General Nuclear Power Corporation's (CGNPC) (Shenzhen) Yangjiang Nuclear Power Plant on July 8, 2013, according to an announcement from SEPCO2 on July 11. This marks that SEPCO2 has achieved an important milestone in the nuclear power construction sector.
The Yangjiang Nuclear Power Station, located in Dongping Town of Yangjiang City in southern China's Guangdong province, is a key energy project in the nation's 11th Five-Year (2006-11) Plan, with a total planned capacity of six 1,000-megawatt (MW) nuclear power units based on CGNPC's CPR1000 pressurized water reactor technology. The power station is also the first nuclear power plant in China to receive approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) to build all six planned units continuously. Yangjiang Nuclear Power Company Limited (YNPC) (Yangjiang, Guangdong), a subsidiary of the CGNPC with joint investment from CLP Holdings Limited (002.HK) (Hong Kong), is responsible for the development and future operations of the project.
Prior to winning the new bid, SEPCO2 was the plant's contractor for the construction and erection contractor for the conventional islands of units 1 and 2. "The winning of the construction and erection bid for the conventional island and BOP of Unit 5 again has paved a firm foundation for the sustainable development of SEPCO2 in the sector," said officials from the SEPCO2 in the announcement.
Construction of all six units at Yangjiang Nuclear Power Plant has kicked off. The hot test for Unit 1 was completed on June 23, 2013, and the unit is expected to begin commercial operations in August 2013. Foundation excavation for units 5 and 6 was kicked off in May 2012. According to the schedule, all six units at the plant will go into operation in 2017.
