Construction Under Way on Siemens Manufacturing Plant Expansion in North Carolina

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Siemens Power Generation (Charlotte, North Carolina) is currently under way on a $170 million expansion of the company's manufacturing plant in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Known as "Project Cardinal" during secret negotiations, construction is under way to build a 450,000-square-foot gas turbine plant and a 60,000-square-foot office building that will allow the company to relocate its existing gas turbine manufacturing operations from Hamilton, Ontario, and engineering operations from Orlando, Florida. Approximately 825 new jobs will be created. Groundbreaking occurred in October of this year. Overall completion is slated for the fall of 2011.

Siemens currently employs 780 workers at its 550,000-square-foot existing facility, which was constructed more than 40 years ago.
