Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Dongfang (Guangzhou) Heavy Machinery Company Limited (Dongfang Heavy Machinery), a subsidiary of Dongfang Electric Corporation (Chengdu), delivered the first 1,000-megawatt (MW) steam generator on June 6, 2008, for China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group's (Shenzhen) Phase II expansion project at the Ling'ao nuclear power station in southern China's Guangdong province.
The project adopts CPR1000 technology, an independent technology developed by the Guangdong Nuclear. From engineering and equipment manufacture to construction and operation management, all aspects of the project are being handled by Chinese enterprises. The project will serve to build a foundation for similar projects in China, including the Hongyanhe nuclear power station in northeastern China's Liaoning province and the Ningde nuclear power station in eastern China's Fujian province.
The localization rate of Guangdong Nuclear's CPR1000 will be gradually increased from 30% in Ling'ao I to 60% in Ling'ao II, and then to 75% in Hongyanhe and 80% at the Ningde station.
Dongfang Electric, the manufacture contractor of main equipment for Ling'ao II, has been manufacturing nuclear power equipment since the 1980s. In order to better serve the localization strategy of nuclear power equipment, Dongfang Electric set up Dongfang Heavy Machinery in Guangzhou in December 2004. A modern heavy machinery manufacture facility furnished with top-grade equipment, the largest lifting capacity in China and a 3,000-ton heavy berth was put into use in September 2006. In less than two years, Dongfang Electric realized the objective of moving from technical development to the independent manufacture of nuclear power equipment.
Two of the five steam generators for Ling'ao II are being assembled and are scheduled for delivery in July. The three others are scheduled to be delivered at the beginning of 2009. The steam generator is the core device of a nuclear power station's power island. The successful manufacture and delivery of the equipment have paved the way for Ling'aos two units to go into commercial operation by 2010 and 2011, respectively.
