Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--East China Electric Power Design Institute (ECEPDI) (Shanghai), a subsidiary of China Power Engineering Consulting Corporation (CPECC) (Beijing), recently signed the survey, design and engineering contract for Guodian Huangjinbu Power Plant's 2,000-megawatt (MW) Phase II Expansion Project with Guodian Huangjinbu Power Generation Company Limited, the project owner, in Jiujiang, in Central China's Jiangxi province. This is another cooperation between ECEPDI and the project owner following the successful commissioning of two 600-MW, coal-fired units in Phase I in 2007, the CPECC announced on April 6.
The Guodian Huangjinbu Power Plant, which is in Yugang County in Shangrao City, Jiangxi province, is jointly invested by China Guodian Corporation (Beijing) (51%) and Huainan Mining Group Company Limited (Huainan, Anhui) (49%). The power plant has a total planned capacity of 3,200 MW, including two 600-MW units in Phase I and two 1,000-MW units to be built in Phase II. Construction of Phase I kicked off in April 2005, and the two units were commissioned in March and July 2007, respectively. According to plans, two 1,000-MW, ultra-supercritical, coal-fired units will be built in Phase II, with a total investment of about $1.2 billion. The project will have flue gas desulfurization and de-nitration devices to be built with the main works. Major technical parameters and environmental protection indicators of the project will be rated at an advanced level among similar units in China.
The Phase II expansion project had received preliminary approval from the National Energy Administration to kick off pre-stage preparation work in June 2011. According to the schedule, construction of the expansion project will kick off by the end of this year, and the project will be fully operational in 2014. Upon completion, the power plant will be the largest coal-fired power plant in Jiangxi.
