Written by Amir Richani for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Electricite de France (EDF) (Paris, France) has inaugurated the Serra do Serido windfarm in Brazil's state of Paraiba.

EDF announced the inauguration of the 480-megawatt Serra do Serido windfarm in Brazil's northeast, after three years of construction. The facility has 85 wind turbines that produce enough electricity to supply up to 1.5 million Brazilian households. Construction of the asset started in 2021 and was achieved in two phases. Béatrice Buffon, chairman of EDF Renewables, said, "The inauguration of the Serra do Seridó wind farm is an important milestone that demonstrates our ongoing commitment to a carbon-neutral future, also contributing to the decarbonization strategy of our clients. By providing sustainable energy, we contribute to the fight against climate change and promote socio-economic progress for local communities around our facilities, a crucial challenge to foster a just and sustainable energy transition."

Including the Serra do Serido windfarm, EDF has a total wind and solar capacity of 1.8 gigawatts (GW) in Brazil, as well as hydropower and combined-cycle plants.

According to a company statement, EDF also won its first project in electricity transmission and is developing storage solutions in the country.

Brazil is gearing up to become a world leader in renewable energy, with 3.8 GW of windfarms under construction and another 20.3 GW in projects to be developed, according to information from the National Agency for Electricity (ANEEL).

Luiz Inacio Lula's government is promoting renewable energy development through its plan "Novo Pac," which expects to raise billions in investments for renewable energy and grid expansions in the next three years.
