Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The environmental impact assessments (EIAs) for Huaneng Gansu Energy Development Company Limited's (Qingyang, Gansu) 8 million-metric-ton-per-year Xinzhuang underground coal mine and Gansu Huaneng Tianjun Energy Company Limited's (Lanzhou, Gansu)'s 5 million-metric-ton-per-year Mafuchuan coal mine recently received approval from China's Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP).
The Mafuchuan underground coal mine, covering a total area of 68.1 square kilometers in the Shajingzi Mining Zone, in the western Huanxian county of Gansu province, has a total coal reserve of 1.087 billion metric tons, an exploitable reserve of about 647 million metric tons and a service life of 92.5 years. The coal mine has a designed annual production capacity of 5 million metric tons per year and requires a total investment of about $570 million, including about $10.8 million for environmental protection.
Construction of the project is mainly comprised of one main vertical shaft, one auxiliary vertical shaft, one ventilation vertical shaft and a coal preparation plant, together with other common and auxiliary facilities such as warehouses, and heat, water and electricity supply.
The project received approval from the National Energy Administration to kick off pre-stage preparation in April this year. The Environment Impact Assessment report passed the examination of an expert panel organized by the MEP on June 11, 2011. According to the schedule, the project will be completed and put into operation by the end of the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015).
The Xinzhuang underground coal mine is located in Xinzhuang Town and Zhongcun Town, in Ningxian County in the Gansu province. The coal mine covers an area of about 207.98 square kilometers and has a total proven reserve of about 1.2 billion metric tons. According to approval, the coal mine will have a service life of more than 100 years based on the design annual output of 8 million metric tons per year.
Construction of the project is mainly comprised of one main inclined shaft, one auxiliary vertical shaft, one vertical ventilation shaft, one 12 million-metric-ton-per-year coal preparation plant and the associated industrial fields, access roads, special railway, transmission lines, quarrel and spoiling fields, which occupy a total area of 90.63 hectares. Total earth and rock excavation volume of the project will be about 7.38 million cubic meters. Total investment in the coal mine project is about $556 million.
The project received preliminary approval from the National Energy Administration to kick off pre-stage preparation in late April 2011. The EIA report was submitted to and accepted by the MEP on May 20, 2011. According to the schedule, the project will begin a trial operation in late 2013 and should be completed in 2014.
Beijing Huayu Engineering Company Limited (Beijing), a regional subsidiary of Sinocoal International Engineering Group Corporation (Beijing), is responsible for the overall design and engineering of both projects.
