Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Sorrento Lactalis Incorporated (Buffalo, New York), a subsidiary of French company Groupe Lactalis (Laval, France), has begun expanding the company's whey-drying operations in Nampa, Idaho. In May, state and local officials gathered at the plant on Franklin Road for the official groundbreaking. The company is adding a new whey-dryer to increase production capacity and expects to generate 50 new jobs when the project is completed in spring 2010.
Since acquiring the Nampa plant in 1999 from J. R Simplot Company (Boise, Idaho), Sorrento Lactalis has invested more than $100 million in upgrades and expansion at the facility, which is the company's largest cheese-processing plant and employs more than 500 people.
