ExxonMobil Begins Commercial Start-Up of 510-Megawatt Cogen at the Beaumont Refinery

ExxonMobil Chemical Company (Houston, Texas), a division of ExxonMobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM) (Irving, Texas), has completed full commercial start-up of $300 Million, 510-Megawatt cogen addition at its petroleum refinery located in Jefferson County Beaumont, Texas.

Construction for the project began in September of 2003 and was completed in January 2005. Two of the new units began commercial operation in June of this year, with the last unit beginning commercial start-up earlier this month. The project consisted of adding three 170-megawatt natural gas-fired GE Power Systems MS7001FA combustion turbine generator and three Foster Wheeler heat recovery steam generator to the power plant, as part of an expansion and upgrade of the existing utilities plant at the refinery. With the completion of the project Exxon has boosted the refinery’s generating capacity by 510-megawatts for future needs.

Black & Veatch, headquartered in Overland Park, Kansas, performed the engineering services for the project and Zachry Construction Corporation of San Antonio, Texas acted as the general contractor.
