Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has approved the construction of the PennEast natural gas pipeline, which will carry natural gas from Pennsylvania to New Jersey. The project is owned in part by New Jersey Resources (NYSE:NJR) (Wall, New Jersey).
The pipeline will run 114 miles from the Marcellus Shale in Pennsylvania to intersect with Williams Companies' (NYSE:WMB) (Tulsa, Oklahoma) Transco natural gas pipeline in New Jersey. The 36-inch-diameter pipe will transport up to 1 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas. The project has an estimated combined total investment value (TIV) of $385 million. Construction is expected to begin this year, with an in-service date of 2019. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on the Pennsylvania and New Jersey portions of the pipeline.
Stephen Westhoven, chief operating officer at New Jersey Resources, said, "We are pleased this project has received FERC approval and look forward to delivering the benefits of this locally sourced, abundant, low-cost natural gas to our state." The company noted that FERC's approval came two weeks after a cold snap forced New Jersey natural gas prices to skyrocket.
The news comes less than two weeks after FERC upheld the denial of a water quality permit in New York for another pipeline designed to move Pennsylvania gas, the Constitution Pipeline, owned by a partnership of companies headed by Williams. For more information, see January 16, 2018, article - FERC Upholds New York's Permit Denial for Constitution Natural Gas Pipeline.
New Jersey Resources also is underway with the Southern Reliability Link, a 28-mile stretch of 30-inch-diameter pipeline that will carry 180 million cubic feet per day of natural gas from Burlington County, New Jersey, to Ocean County, New Jersey. Construction is expected to begin soon, with completion set for this summer. AECOM (NYSE:ACM) (Los Angeles, California) is consultant on the grassroot project, which has a combined TIV of $80 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on the pipeline and compressor station.
As Pennsylvania continues to produce abundant natural gas from the Marcellus Shale, an increasing number of gas transmission projects are planned in the state. Among these is Energy Transfer Partners LP's (NYSE:ETP) (Dallas, Texas) Revolution grassroot natural gas pipeline. The 100 miles of 24- and 30-inch pipeline will transport up to 440 million cubic feet per day of natural gas from Butler County, Pennsylvania, to Energy Transfer's planned cryogenic gas processing plant in western Pennsylvania. Construction could begin this summer, taking about a year to complete. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
