Fertilizantes Fosfatados to Perform Maintenance Work at Sites in Parana and Minas Gerais States

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Brazilian company Fertilizantes Fosfatados Fosfertil (Sao Paulo) is to perform maintenance repairs at two of its sites located in Minas Gerais and Parana states that aim to improve the company's production. Fosfertil is one of Brazil's most important miners and chemical producers and the country's most important producer of phosphate and nitrogen fertilizers.

The company operates four chemical processing sites in south-central Brazil, the Cubatao Industrial Complex and the Cubatao Piacaguera Industrial Complex, both located in Cubatao, Sao Paulo state; one in Uberaba, Minas Gerais ; and another in Araucaria, Parana . Fosfertil is to perform a number of maintenance projects to improve output at the Uberaba and Araucaria sites.

The Araucaria Phosphate Industrial Complex has scheduled projects to upgrade the technology used at its Ammonia Unit and to expand its present production capacity. The current production of 448,000 metric tons per year production will be increased by an unspecified amount but is expected to be about a 40% increase.

The Uberaba Phosphate Industrial Complex consists of six fertilizers units; four phosphoric acid units, each with a 160,000-metric-ton-per-year production capacity; and three sulfuric acid plants, all with a 657,000-metric-ton-per-year output capacity. In May 2010, sulfuric acid plants 110 and 120 will undergo maintenance work that will require an investment of around $5 million. The next maintenance work at the site will be in the first and second quarters of 2011. First, Sulfuric Acid Plant 130 will be subject to a $3 million repair. Then the 525,600-metric-ton-per-year Fertilizers 220-TSP Powder Unit, 438,000-metric-ton-per-year Fertilizers 240-MAP Granule Unit and 332,880-metric-ton-per-year Fertilizers 250-TSP Granule Unit, plus plant utilities, are to be repaired in April of the same year with a total investment of $5 million.
